It is the end of summer and I'm clinging to it with everything I've got. I just don't want the warm, sunny days to end! I also don't want to have to give up my new favourite drink--a grapefruit mint fizz. I know, I know, I don't have to do anything, but who really feels like drinking summer when there is snow on the ground?
This drink is super easy. Start with your favourite glass (must be at least 15 ounces). Add ice. Add a can of your favourite brand of soda water. I need to point out, soda water is NOT the same as tonic water--they are two different beasts!
Next, quickly hand juice a grapefruit. Yes, I realize that is a lime in my picture (I didn't catch one of the process with a grapefruit). I just LOVE that juicer. I tried, in vain, to find out who made it so I could share with you...but I couldn't. Can you believe the manufacturer is printed nowhere on that thing? It is a miracle and a curse simultaneously. Anyhow, get yourself something like this and juice away. The best part? It tells you how many tablespoons of juice you've got, so fresh juice can easily be used in other recipes.
Ok, back to my fizz...add the grapefruit juice (and a little pulp if you like it) to the soda water. Next, put in two tablespoons of simple syrup. If you don't know how to make it, never fear, it really is the easiest thing to do...I mix two cups boiling water and one cup white sugar. Done.
Finally, add some torn peppermint leaves! You've got yourself a delicious drink that tastes like summer!
Grapefruit not your thing (like 3/4 of my household)? Well, try these combos:
-lime and basil
-lime and cherry
-lemon and mint
-lemon and strawberry
And whatever you do...don't forget to fizzle, dazzle, sparkle and shine!
