Sod, Oklahoma, and all that Jazz

Ok, there is nothing having to do with jazz in this post, but I just have that song stuck in my mind.

Have you ever had a day when you thought, "wow, this day is great!" and you just went about your day all smiling and in your own little world?  Then, at the end of the day you realize that while you were whistling with a little blue bird sitting on your shoulder, people you care about were going through something really awful?  Heck, you don't even have to have a connection with the hurting ones, but you feel like that blue bird on your shoulder just got crushed by a ton of bricks.  And maybe you feel silly that the blue bird was even there, knowing what you know about the suffering others have endured.

Yeah, that was my day today.  I am feeling such mixed emotions as I get ready for bed.

(my new lawn)

You see,  I took the ferry with my boys, drove through the blinding sun to a sod farm, picked up our front yard (literally), and then brought it home and laid it out.  I was so happy to have turned my dirt into an instant lawn...and then I awoke to the reality that my beloved Oklahoma was under serious attack.  The Sooner state that I hold dear to my heart (after spending my 4 years of university there) was hit by massive tornadoes today and many people suffered great loss.

Tonight I go to bed remembering the blessings in my life and praying like crazy for all those who have endured the unimaginable today.  May God have mercy.
